This Privacy Policy explains how Pebblework Labs ("Pebblework Labs," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with Calmate, a calorie, meal, hydration, weight, and nutrition planning app.
Calmate is intended for general wellness and nutrition tracking. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
Information You Provide or Create in Calmate
Depending on how you use the app, Calmate may process the following information:
- Profile and goal information, such as age range, height, weight, desired weight, activity level, goal type, and calorie or macro targets.
- Meal and nutrition logs, including meal names, calories, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, meal type, food photos, barcode-derived food data, and related dates.
- Hydration, exercise, progress, and plan information, including water intake, exercise descriptions, estimated calories burned, daily goals, and weight progress.
- Chat or free-form text you enter into app features that generate nutrition or exercise estimates.
- Photos you choose from your library or capture with your camera for meal logging or AI-assisted nutrition estimates.
- Purchase and subscription status provided by Apple when you buy, manage, or restore an in-app purchase.
Apple Health Data
If you give permission, Calmate may read body weight data from Apple Health to show recent progress. Calmate does not write data to Apple Health. You can change Health permissions at any time in the iOS Health app or Settings app.
We do not use Apple Health data for advertising or sell Apple Health data. Health-related information is treated as sensitive and is used only to provide and improve the wellness features you choose to use.
Device Permissions
Calmate may ask for access to device features only when needed:
- Camera access, to scan barcodes or capture meal photos.
- Photo library access, to let you select meal photos.
- Notifications, to send reminders or app alerts you enable.
- Apple Health, to read body weight data if you grant permission.
How Information Is Stored
Most Calmate data is stored locally on your device using app storage. Some data may also be shared with app extensions, such as widgets, so the app can show calorie or hydration information outside the main app.
If you delete the app, locally stored app data may be removed from your device according to iOS behavior. Data that has already been sent to third-party services described below may be handled under those services' policies.
Third-Party Services
Calmate uses certain third-party services to provide core app features:
- Apple App Store and StoreKit, to process subscriptions, purchases, free trials, renewals, cancellations, and restore-purchase requests.
- Apple HealthKit, when you choose to connect Apple Health.
- OpenAI API services, to generate nutrition, meal, chat, or exercise estimates from text or photos you submit to AI-powered features.
- Open Food Facts, to look up food information when you scan or enter a barcode.
When you use AI-powered features, the text and images you submit for those features may be transmitted to our API provider for processing. Avoid submitting information you do not want processed by those services.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide meal logging, calorie tracking, hydration tracking, progress charts, widgets, and personalized goal features.
- Generate nutrition, calorie, macro, plan, and exercise estimates.
- Maintain subscription access and paid features.
- Improve app reliability, security, usability, and feature quality.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information for third-party advertising. We may share information only as needed to operate Calmate, including with service providers that process information for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, with Apple for purchase and platform functionality, when required by law, or in connection with a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
Subscriptions and Payments
In-app purchases are processed by Apple. We do not receive your full payment card number. Apple may provide us with purchase status, subscription status, transaction identifiers, product identifiers, and related purchase metadata so we can unlock paid features and manage subscription access.
Retention
We keep information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law. Local app data remains on your device unless you delete it in the app, delete the app, or reset your device data.
Your Choices
- You can update or delete many entries directly in the app.
- You can disable camera, photo, notification, and Health permissions in iOS Settings.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID subscription settings.
- You can stop using AI-powered features if you do not want text or photos sent for AI processing.
Children
Calmate is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Use
If you use Calmate outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those countries may have data protection laws different from your location.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Your continued use of Calmate after the updated policy becomes effective means you accept the updated policy.
